If you love taking pictures and you are thinking about making a business out of your hobby, renting your own studio space can make it easier to accommodate your clients and build your brand. However, since many spaces can double as a photography studio, you may wonder what to look for in a space. Here are three features to look for in a photography studio rental, and why paying attention to the details will matter in the long run. 

1.    Plenty of Incoming Natural Light While you may have lights that work in conjunction with your camera equipment, there is no substitute for ample amounts of incoming light to help you to illuminate your studio. In addition to making photos look natural, incoming light can always be blocked out by curtains or blinds if it is interfering with your shots. 

Look for a studio with large windows and incoming light, and pay attention to which way the windows are facing. If most of your sessions are in the afternoon and you love the look of natural light, look for a studio with west-facing windows that project light onto the wall where you will be shooting the session. 

2.    Room to Photograph A Variety of Groups Your business will surely grow, but you can't always add space to an existing studio. For this reason, it is important to select a studio rental that gives you room to photograph a variety of different groups. While a smaller space may work out perfectly for photographing newborns, larger spaces are more appropriate for bigger groups like families or work teams. 

Additionally, you need to think about how much space you will need to back away from the subjects to get the angles you are after. When looking for a studio, carefully consider the amount of room you need, and look for a space that gives you more than enough room for the types of setups you like to do. 

3.    Extra Wall Outlets During photography and editing sessions, you may find yourself needing to move lights around, plug in your laptop in different places, and use outlets for things like charging removable batteries. For this reason, look for a studio rental that has an ample amount of wall outlets. During your search for the perfect studio, think about where you would put clients during sessions and where you would need to place lighting and editing areas.

After you have found the perfect photography studio rental, fill the space with all of the equipment and props you need to create a functional workspace. Consider painting the walls of the studio different colors to create convenient backdrops, and look for rugs you can lay down quickly to alter the look of your space.
